1995年6月，经合组织发展援助委员会曾经宣布，从1996年起，将新加坡划为“发达国家”，根据是新加坡人均国内生产总值已达到2.4万美元。不过新加坡认为自己国内的工业基础还比较弱，要求经合组织对发达国家的标准再作研究和明确。

1996年1月，经合组织改变了原来的决定，将新加坡改划为“较发达的发展中国家。”

上面的资料还是多年前的。新加坡现在完全算是发达国家的。
